Getting Started
SysMon displays real-time system monitoring data for your iOS device. Upon launch, the Dashboard shows CPU usage, memory consumption, storage capacity, and battery status in a geek-styled interface.
Navigate through tabs to explore:
- Dashboard: Overview of CPU, memory, storage, battery, thermal state, and network speeds
- Network: Real-time upload/download speeds, WiFi details, and connection statistics
- Sensors: Accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, compass, and GPS data
- Process: App runtime information, memory footprint, and CPU details
- Device: Complete hardware specs, OS version, display info, and connectivity details
Permissions
SysMon requests two optional permissions:
- Location: Used to display GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude, speed) in the Sensors tab. Denying this will not affect any other feature.
- Motion: Used to access accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer readings in the Sensors tab. Denying this will not affect any other feature.
You can manage permissions anytime in Settings > SysMon.
Widgets
SysMon includes Home Screen widgets for quick monitoring:
- CPU Widget: Shows CPU usage percentage with a mini graph
- Memory Widget: Shows memory usage in GB with trend line
- Battery Widget: Shows battery level and charging status
- Network Widget: Shows upload/download speeds
- Combined Widget: 2x4 grid with all key metrics and uptime
To add widgets: long press your Home Screen, tap "+", search for "SysMon", and select your preferred widget size.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the temperature readings different from other apps?
iOS does not expose direct CPU/GPU temperature sensor readings to apps. SysMon uses the iOS thermal state (nominal/fair/serious/critical) combined with usage patterns to estimate temperatures. These are approximations and may differ from actual hardware temperatures.
Does SysMon drain my battery?
SysMon reads system metrics at a 1Hz refresh rate (once per second) for most data, and 100Hz for motion sensors. This has a minimal impact on battery life. When the app is in the background, only the 1Hz timer continues; motion sensors are paused.
Why does the network speed show 0 when I'm using WiFi?
Network speed is calculated from interface byte count differences over time. If there is no active data transfer at the moment, the speed will show 0. Try loading a webpage or streaming video to see real-time speeds.
Can I use SysMon without granting any permissions?
Yes. Location and Motion permissions are optional. Without them, the Sensors tab will show "Not Available" for GPS and motion data, but all other features (CPU, memory, storage, battery, network, device info) will work normally.
Why does the widget data not update frequently?
iOS limits how often widgets can refresh (typically every 15-30 minutes). However, when SysMon is open and running, it pushes updates to widgets every second. Widget refresh frequency may also vary based on iOS system budget and usage patterns.
